This book is a re-appraisal of the successes of the journey from Melbourne to The Gulf of Carpentaria in 1860-61. They died at Coopers Creek in 1861 never having made it to the Gulf .Several relief expeditions were sent out, all contributing new geographical findings. All together, seven men lost their lives, and only one man, the Irish soldier, John King crossed the continent with the expedition and returned alive to Melbourne. The book examines the contribution made of a scientific and geographical nature It includes numerous illustrations and paintings.
