In two World Wars nearly 200 railway -owned ships were converted to operate as troop carriers, hospital ships , minesweepers and seaplane carriers. They took part in The Gallipoli landings. D Day, Dunkirk. One in three failed to return,they were bombed mined and torpedoed and set on fire.The crews were drowned captured and in one case put to death by firing squad. This is their story.
